Our soap, how it all began…

Don’t let your dreams fly away with the passing of time.

Malta. I used to live on a stunning Mediterranean island called Malta. I spent 6 incredible & happy years there, and that’s where my love for soap making started.

I honestly don’t remember exactly when it began, but the inspiration sprang from many things. I wanted to do something as a side to my quite busy and demanding daytime job.

Having a degree in Health Sciences, and specialising in Nutrition and Complementary Therapies, I didn’t have a practice and felt a little bit like I was letting myself down. I was giving friends and family health advice here and there & where I could - when asked, but that was about it. I had studied for years to earn my degree and specialise, and was also still working on meeting CPD requirements for my practitioner insurance (which yes, I still kept going), you know - just in case I decided that I did want to start a practice. However, looking back, at that time, being a therapist just wasn’t the priority and though I absolutely loved the fields I had studied and was still very much present in them personally, I actually also quite loved my daytime job in learning & development in the space that I had been in working since I was 18. But (and big but) I was becoming increasingly aware that internally I felt a void and time was flying, I was happy and content but needed to channel my love for science, health related things and just some creativity into something other, and well…that something other ended up being soap. And not just your supermarket kind - I was fascinated by the traditional and ancient science and art of making soap - cold processed soap (one form of traditional soap making).

So, I did a bit of reading, I watched a few YouTube vids (shout out to Elly from ‘Elly’s every day soapmaking’), and I made my first batch! Using my hands, using science, utilising my knowledge of chemistry, aromatherapy, I poured soap batter into an empty top cut off and cleaned out milk carton, I was so bloody excited, it was nerve wracking, as was the anticipation for what would come in the morning, did I do it right, was it going to turn into soap, aaaahhhh??!! Did I take a sneak peek at it on the way to the loo in middle of the night??? YES, I did!!!…And the next morning, I was shocked, elated and over the moon to find I had managed to make a beautiful loaf of creamy coloured soap!

I’ve been making soap ever since AND have no intention of stopping. I’ve also added a few other items to the product range and have had great feedback from everybody who has tried them. So, if you fancy trying something new - we would be so happy if you tried some products from our range!

After years of deliberation and procrastinating, finally… almost 3 YEARS after moving back to my home country of the United Kingdom and after 6 years of soap making. I decided I had to do it, if not for all of my loved ones urging me on, then for me and what could be.

Starting something new can be so daunting, its lots of hard work and there are always excuses - I have made so many of them myself, however, we have to grow & evolve, stretch & push facing challenges along the way - but that is the beauty of this I think, the growth, the learning, the achievement, the potential.

In the words of the founder of - ‘A Millennial Mind’ - Shivani Pau, ‘There will always be excuses, the timing, the fear, the self-doubt. But the only thing standing between you and what you want… is starting. Start small. Start messy. But start today.’
